It was interesting to note how alike children’s Christmas toy wish lists are in another country in the world. The article,“This year’s most-wanted Christmas toys”, in Yahoo Style UK on November 8, showed how similar the choices are.

Here are just a few examples:

The original Stretch Armstrong action figure from the 1970s by Kenner was a large figure doll in the shape of a blond man with muscles wearing swimming trunks. It stands out from other action figures because its legs and arms could stretch. An amazing 40,000 Stretch Armstrong toys were produced by Kenner from 1976 to 1979 and made more than 50 million dollars while also being the biggest buyer of corn syrup during that time. However, the thick dark-colored corn syrup filling, which made the latex skin return slowly to its original position, would ooze out of any easily damaged skin area, especially when the toy was stretched beyond its normal capacity. A new version of the doll came out in the early 1990s with longer blone hair, a big white smile, wearing boxers and a muscle t-shirt with ‘Stretch Armstrong’ on it.

The latest Nerf blasters are Nerf’s most popular products. They are toy plastic guns that shoot foam darts velcro-tipped to stick to Nerf vests, or are tipped with suction cups that are designed to stick to smooth surfaces. Some are able to whistle in flight, and they are streamlined to fit in magazines. Color variations include color swap, camouflage, and glow in the dark.

Hasbro’s FurReal Roarin’ Tyler, the Playful Tiger responds to touch and sound, has over 100 sound and movement combinations, and is the most expensive toy on the list. His favorite way to play is to ROAR when one talks to him or makes a noise and he roars back. Pet his head and his eyes close. Pet him on his muzzle and he moves! He is meant to be cuddled and hugged and is a fun-lovin’ pet.

Gary Grant, the DreamToys committee chair, said that this year’s top toys are an exciting range of innovative ones from the biggest collectible trends to exciting action products and fun family board games, making the list incredibly diverse and with prices to suit all budgets.
