It is a scary thing to think about, but the use of social media might actually cause a person to have their anxiety levels going through the roof. It is something that is difficult for a lot of people to comprehend or accept. Social media was supposed to help us all remain more connected and in better standing with each other. However, it often translates into more of a competition between one another.

Our Mental Health Gets Altered

There are studies that show that some who remain on social media for extended periods of time end up with more mental health problems and anxiety in general. A lot of us can relate to this in our own lives. Just think about how you feel after spending your whole day on Facebook or Twitter compared to actually living your life.

Not only is social media a potential time drainer. It makes us want to compare what we are doing with our lives compared to what other people are doing. Of course, people just post the most flattering parts of their life out on social media. They do not put the rough days or unflattering pictures out there. Thus, before long it is easy to just think that everyone else is always having a great time while we are stuck at home doing nothing.

Social Media Is Designed For Us To Waste Our Time There

Every social media website is designed to make us spend as much time as possible on the site. They all want us to devote ourselves to them and only them. They are like jealous lovers in this way. The engineers and computer people behind social media have a lot of tricks to make us all spend our time there. We are not able to beat the system that they have put up for us, so we might as well not even try.

If you want to be happier in your station in life and spend more time actually living that life, then you need to get off of the social media websites and start living your life. An easy first step to try to help your mental health is at least to delete the social media apps from your smartphone. Making it just a little harder for yourself to get onto those types of websites makes your life a little better along the way.
